Mini rugby at West Leeds R.U.F.C. covers under 7's through to under 12's. We follow the RFU continuum under which the game is introduced in stages, starting with non contact tag rugby for the U7 and U8 groups. Contact rugby, with scrums and lineouts (initially uncontested) starts at U9 level, and at U11 level kicking is introduced. The aim is to develop boys and girls in a safe and controlled manner, and to prepare them for the 15-a-side game at youth level (U13 and upwards). The school years correspond to the rugby age groups as follows:
Years 1 & 2
The West Leeds RUFC coaching committee is built on highly experienced individuals whose dedication and hard efforts are second to none. They're there to ensure that players of all abilities achieve their highest potential in an enjoyable, fun, disciplined and safe environment. All age groups have RFU qualified coaches, all of whom are CRB checked as are our first aiders and administrators.
To succeed in the modern game of rugby union a club must continually develop young talent through its mini & midi sections. A combination of progressive skills training and match experience are crucial to a player's depth in the understanding of the game. Our aim at West Leeds RUFC is to progress young players of all abilities through the various stages of training year on year.
It is resommended that a parent or guardian must stay at pitch-side at all times. Players and spectators are expected to adhere to our code of conduct which emphasises the traditional values of rugby including respect for officials and opposition players.
